Wedding Cake Icing Recipes. Spread on cake after cake is completely cooled. Gradually add the sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.
Mix on low speed until combined. It is so simple to make and delicious! The Italian meringue is smoother and less sweet but softer, and the easy buttercream is a little more conducive to piping roses etc.
Use sugar, cake flour, egg (s), extra egg whites, sour cream, whole milk, and proper room temperature butter. (Among a few other ingredients.) If needed, use this cake flour substitute.
Note that this recipe also works wonderfully for layer cakes.
An Italian meringue, I call it wedding cake icing. Add meringue powder and all flavorings and extracts. In large bowl (standing mixer recommended), mix butter and shortening on low until combined.
